Excerpt: “When Ezra the priest read the Torah aloud to the people who had missed hearing & studying it during the exile, they were saddened & frightened by how far as a nation they had wandered from God’s path. But Ezra assured them, “Do not be saddened this day, for rejoicing in the Lord must be your strength!”(1) Jesus rejoiced that he had come “to bring glad tidings to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives, recovery of sight to the blind and release to prisoners, to announce a year of favor from the Lord.”(3) Each of us must rejoice to be a part of the living body of Christ which is the Church. (2) Each of us must rejoice in the gifts that are ours to give.
