The Eucharist is the center
and heart of Christian life for both the universal and local church and for
each Christian. All that belongs to Christian life leads to the Eucharistic
celebration or flows from it. At Saint Paul Church the preparation of
children for First Eucharist is seen as a unique time for parents to grow in
their own understanding and appreciation of the Eucharist and to share this
with their children. Children first begin to learn about the Eucharist in
the home where they experience family love and share in family celebrations
and meals.
The formal preparation for
the Sacrament of Eucharist begins in the First Grade and continues in the
Second Grade. During March, April, and May of the Second Grade year, parents
and children participate in two “Family Sessions” at the parish on the
Sacrament of the Eucharist. The sessions are followed by activities in the
home and by instruction for the children in the Sunday morning PSR classes.
The Celebration of First Eucharist is held usually on the third Sunday of
May.
