Small Church Communities
Coordinator: Deacon Paul Richardson
In the Gospel of Luke (24: 13-35) we read of Jesus and two of his disciples, walking the road to Emmaus. As they walked along they shared their hopes and dreams and disappointments. Jesus made a connection between these experiences and the words in Scripture in such a way that these hopes and disappointments took on a whole new meaning. In reflecting back upon the encounter the disciples said to each other: “Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us?”
This Gospel helps describe the goal of St. Paul’s Small Church Communities. St. Paul Parish is in its third year (as of 2005) of offering these small faith-sharing groups. We now have seven small groups, made up of 6 to 12 persons who come together once every other week, meeting in private homes or at the church. They read and reflect upon Scripture and share ideas on how God’s Word affects their lives. When faced with challenges and difficulties in their faith journeys, persons in the small groups offer and receive support from fellow parishioners as they try to follow God’s call in their lives. Confidentiality and trust are highly valued in the groups.
Each of the groups is seeking to expand its membership and would love to welcome YOU. We would also like to start a new group.
PLEASE CONTACT THE PARISH OFFICE if you are interested in joining a SCC groups.
