Confirmation

Christian initiation is accomplished by three sacraments together: Baptism which is the beginning of new life; Confirmation which is its strengthening; and the Eucharist which nourishes the disciple with Christ’s Body and Blood for his transformation in Christ.

Confirmation perfects Baptismal grace; it is the sacrament which gives the Holy Spirit in order to root us more deeply in divine filiation, incorporates us more firmly into Christ, strengthens our bond with the Church, associates us more closely with her mission, and helps us bear witness to the Christian faith in words accompanied by deeds. At Saint Paul Church the Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated every other year. Youth in Grades Seven & Eight prepare for the Sacrament with the help of the whole Parish Community. Parents, sponsors and catechists play a special role. Candidates review the basic doctrine of the Church as found in the Nicene Creed. They seek a conversion of the heart to Jesus, a deeper faith, a more active participation in the liturgical life of the Church, and service to others in the name of Christ. Candidates learn that completing the preparation for Confirmation does not complete the formation necessary for continued growth as a Christian. Lifelong growth in faith is needed to respond to God’s call to live as effective Christian witnesses in the world.
